Marc Castaño-Trias, PhD student of ICRA and UdG, spent 3 months (from March 6th to June 9th, 2023) in the Laboratory of Environmental and Sanitary Engineering of the University of Ferrara (Italy), under the supervision on Prof. Paola Verlicchi, responsible for the Department of Engineering in the framework of his FI scholarship.
The research activity and collaboration were on contaminants of emerging concern (i.e., pharmaceuticals) in water reclamation systems for crops irrigation in the Mediterranean area. The objective was to select pharmaceuticals of concern based on persistence, toxicity, bioaccumulation, and other criteria from the literature and the previous experience of ICRA and the University of Ferrara.
