Last week, several members of ICRA participated in the meeting of the project DARABi (Dissemination of Antibiotic Resistance by Aquatic Birds) that took place at the Biological Station of Doñana (EBD; Seville), which is the coordinating entity. The meeting was attended by Dr. Marta I. Sánchez (project coordinator) and Dr. Andy J. Green from the EBD, Dr. Francisco Hortas and Dayana Jarma from the University of Cadiz, Dr. Juan Manuel Peralta from the University of Granada, and Dr. Lorena López and Dr. Marina Pulido from the University of Seville. On behalf of ICRA, the attendees were Dr. Carles Borrego (project PI), Dr. José Luís Balcázar (co-PI), Dr. Oriol Sacristán, and Carmen Gutiérrez, the project research technician.

DARABi aims to solve the role of migratory birds (particularly gulls and storks) in the dissemination of antibiotic resistance and how this role is stimulated by the contamination of the habitats where these birds rest and roost. During the meeting, both groups presented their results, discussed upcoming activities, and agreed on the best strategy for the dissemination of results.

This is a project funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación, Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.
