The Catalan translation of Groundwater in Our Water Cycle of the Groundwater Project has been published

The book Groundwater in Our Water Cycle. Getting to Know Earth's Most Important Fresh Water Source, by Eileen Poeter, Ying Fan, John Cherry, Warren Wood and Douglas Mackay, has been translated into Catalan by Josep Mas-Pla, researcher in the Resources and Ecosystems Area of ICRA and professor at the University of Girona, and has been published on the occasion of World Water Day 2022 dedicated to groundwater with the slogan "let's make the invisible visible".

L’aigua subterrània en el cicle hidrològic. Una introducció a la reserva d’aigua dolça més important de la Terra  discusses the role and importance of groundwater in the hydrological cycle on planet Earth. Over the last decade, many books have been published devoted to the growing global water crisis. While many of these books focus on the immense importance of freshwater to humanity and the myriad problems related to water availability, none of them have been written by hydrological experts that address the groundwater part of the hydrological cycle for a broad audience in such an integrated way as this one does.

The thesis of the book is clear: groundwater is indispensable for securing human and ecological needs. Especially when human pressure on natural resources is very strong and the impacts are very severe. Moreover, the influence of climate change will make current management models unviable and new forms of management based on environmental protection and social justice will have to be considered. The text shows that groundwater is the most unknown part of the hydrological cycle and that it is necessary to know its dynamics in order to face the challenges mentioned in the governance of this natural resource, which is essential for life.

The work is part of the Groundwater Project, a non-profit organisation registered in Canada in 2019 committed to contributing to educational progress and bringing a new vision to the creation and dissemination of knowledge for the understanding and resolution of problems related to hydrogeological resources. GW-Project operates from the website gw-project.org, as a global platform for the democratisation of knowledge in hydrogeology.
